Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems at work, in personal life, family relationships and in the overall quality of life. If your angry behavior is causing difficulties in your life, come join us for 12-week class designed to help you learn to manage anger.
Anger Management Class Curriculum:
Session 1: Introduction of Group Members, Guidelines and Rules
Members will share the reasons they decided to join the group, expectations and outcomes.
Session 2: Anger: Friend or Foe? Introduction to the Problem and Types of Anger
The session will focus on defining anger, exploring triggers and the underlying causes of anger
Session 3: The Process of Anger and its Triggers
Members will identify the process of anger, how anger can be helpful or harmful and triggers provoking anger
Session 4: Defusing Anger by Managing Stress
Members will learn how stress management and relaxation can help and improve reactions to anger provoking situations and better manage anger
Session 5: Handling Anger Effectively
Members will learn how to express anger and frustration through healthy communication and problem-solving skills.
Session 6: Managing Conflict
Members will identify and apply conflict resolution skills to disputes and disagreements
Session 7: Turn Your Anger into Forgiveness and Grace
Members will recognize that forgiveness is possible and is a vital aspect of bringing the process of anger into conclusion.
Session 8: Empathy and Emotional Awareness
Members will identify their ability to empathize with others and gain insight for emotions provoking anger.
Session 9: Strategies to Manage Anger
Participants will explore how to apply strategies such as a time-out for managing anger and will learn the time-out coping skill to de-escalate anger
Session 10: Plan to Change Your Life by Changing Your Thinking
Members will determine how thinking can escalate their angry feelings and behavior. They will explore how to change thinking that is distorted and unrealistic
Session 11: Building Successful Relationships
Members will identify ways to build healthy relationships through empathy skills and supportive communication and thus, defuse conflict and anger.
Session 12: Summary of Workshop and Evaluation
Members will participate in discussion about their experience and skills learned. Group members will complete a written evaluation about the Anger Management Workshop
